Police in Kikuyu and Nakuru on Thursday morning impounded two vehicles that were found to be carrying bhang worth millions of shillings.

Only one of the drivers in the separate incidences has so far been arrested as the second one managed to escape.

Kikuyu traffic police said a white Toyota Fielder that was headed to Nairobi was intercepted at Gitaru but the driver refused to stop.

A short pursuit ensued and the officers managed to waylay the car and arrest the driver.

However, one other person who was in the vehicle escaped.

They found bhang estimated to be worth Ksh.5million in the car that was later towed to Kikuyu Police Station.

In the Nakuru incident, detectives seized another 6558 rolls of bhang after acting on a tip-off.

According to County criminal investigations officer Joseph Koini, the bhang is worth an estimated Ksh.13million.

His police officers are said to have tried to stop the suspected Toyota NZE along Nakuru-Nairobi highway but the driver sped off prompting them to chase him.

Mr. Kioni said the driver and his accomplice however managed to escape but left the car behind and police are following crucial leads that could lead to their arrest.

The incident occurred at 3.30am on Thursday morning.
