Big Reception Awaits Kenyatta Tomorrow
Already, Office of the President is planning a big reception for Kenyatta when he lands at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 8.30am
A statement signed by Interior Secretary Joseph ole Lenku says Kenyatta will use Outering, Jogoo road, Landhies road to his Harambee House office.
The statement has asked Kenyans to turn out in large numbers and welcome the President who attended the status conference on his case at the Hague
Speaking at the end of the status conference, Kenyatta exuded confidence that his case will collapse ‘due to lack of evidence’ against him
He addressed Kenyans among them MPs, Cabinet Secretaries who had travelled with him outside the ICC Building
Kenyatta in his address thanked Kenyans for the support they had shown him prior and after the status conference at The Hague
“I had to come here to show that there was nothing against me” Kenyatta said
During the status conference, legal counsels from the Office of the Prosecution and defense engaged each other on the merits and demerits of the case
The OTP had asked the ICC judges to postpone the case indefinitely due to ‘lack of cooperation by the Kenyan government”
The OTP argued that as President of Kenya, the case could not proceed successfully
But the defense lawyers led by Steven Kay argued that there was no evidence against Kenyatta
“If there was evidence in this case, there would be a trial” said Kay
The lead counsel added that he would not provide further evidence such as telephone numbers for Kenyatta to the prosecution
