Bishop Angela: My carjacking was not political

Bishop Johannes Angela of the ACK Bondo diocese was this morning found at Sirembe, Malunga sub-location in Gem sub-county after he was carjacked by armed gangsters along Ndori-Bondo road on Friday night.

The prelate was carjacked at Kaudi junction along the Ndori-Bondo road which is about two kilometers from his home.

The Bishop was on the way to pick firewood from a neighbour when the incident occurred.

Bishop Angela said he was on the way the his neighbor’s home at around 9.30 pm when a saloon car sped past his car.

The bishop said he heard gunshots, then the saloon car stopped ahead of his car, after which two people alighted and came back to him as the vehicle followed them, before they ordered him out and told him to lie down.

The cleric says that the armed robbers asked him for the car keys before they bundled him in the car boot and drove off.

Bishop Angela, who was speaking to journalists at his Majiwa home, added that the gang had tied his hands and legs then stuffed leaves in his mouth before dumping him in a thicket after ordering him to give details of his ATM card.

They then left in his Toyota Prado.

The cleric has dispelled rumors that the attack could be political and linked to the Deputy President William Ruto’s recent visit in Bondo for a fundraiser at the ACK.

Bondo county commissioner Samson Akatch who confirmed the incident, said the police have launched a thorough investigation.

Akatch said his office will liaise with police from Kisumu and Rarieda to help track the culprits saying that the robbers took off with the Bishop’s car and his two mobile phones.
