Nicholas Biwotts personal assistant of 20 years speaks out

The long serving Personal Assistant of the late powerful Minister in President Daniel arap Moi administration, Nicholas Kipyator Biwott, William Chepkut has opened up and traced the long journey in his career.

Mr Chepkut revealed how he found his way to be the most trusted aide to a man who was powerful, feared and discreet in equal measures.

The soft-spoken man said he once smashed a television set one evening at Kenya Polytechnic, currently Technical University of Kenya, when the late Biwott was arrested linking him to murder of the then Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Robert Ouko.

“I was very angered for the arrest of an innocent man and whose hands were clean,” said Chepkut.

Chepkut says following his action at the Institution, word went round and was afraid of the consequences that awaited him.

“Since then, I won his heart up to the last day when he passed on,” added Chepkut.

“As a true and patriot Servant, I was faithful to him. I would tell him the truth always and every time. I worked half of my time for Biwott.”

Chepkut, the personal assistant to the late Cabinet Minister, revealed that he was competing for Biwott’s attention with President Moi and that he (Chepkut) was the link man between Biwott and his close business associates.

“I loved Biwott with passion because all activities, my family and where I am today is because of this great man,” he said. “For his legacy and memory to continue, I named one of our sons after him; Nicholas Biwott.”

Biwott died last week and was laid to rest on Thursday, July 20 at his Toot home in Kaptarakwa, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
