Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has rubbished claims that he has recently visited State House, saying the allegations, which were made by Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, are blatant lies.

Midiwo had accused Rasanga of secretly visiting State House to broker a deal for the sale of the controversial Yala Swamp to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto – accusations that Rasanga has vehemently denied.

Speaking during the official launch of nominated MP Dr. Oburu Odinga’s campaigns at Bondo Township Primary School in Bondo constituency, Rasanga stated that he has only visited State House twice since he was elected to office in 2013 – both times in the company of fellow governors.

“Somebody is peddling lies, saying that I was spotted in State House. I want to categorically state that I have only gone to State House twice, (both times) in the presence of the other 46 Governors. Never, never before have I visited State House. I am only waiting to visit State House when Raila Odinga occupies it,” asserted Rasanga.

Rubbishing Rigging Claims

Rasanga also refuted rigging allegations leveled against him by Midiwo, saying they are far-fetched, further arguing that he has no reason to rig Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party primaries.

He stated that he cannot be part of such a clandestine plan because he has effectively been campaigning throughout the county to marshal adequate support of the Siaya electorates.

“Jakoyo’s rigging allegations are false! If he is imagining that I can organize rigging, I am sorry. I have been campaigning throughout the county,” Rasanga asserted.

Jakoyo had accused Rasanga of having connived with nominated MP Dr. Oburu Odinga to influence the members of the selection of elections panels that will preside over the ODM nominations across the entire county.

The Gem MP had recently claimed that the members of the constituency elections panel in the six constituencies within the county are likely to be biased because they were chosen by Rasanga and Dr. Oburu.

“These people are biased! They have been chosen by Oburu and Rasanga, so they are allied to Rasanga,” Jakoyo claimed while addressing crowds at Dr. Oburu’s campaign kickoff.

The function was graced by MPs James Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja), Dr. Christine Ombaka (County MP), Siaya Deputy Governor Wilson Ouma Onyango and former Ombudsman Dr. Otiende Amolo among other dignitaries who support Dr, Oburu Odinga’s quest to clinch the Bondo parliamentary seat.
