Blogger Nyakundi given one week before sentencing

The High Court has given blogger Cyprian Nyakundi one week to personally appear in court when suitable punishment will be considered against him for defaming Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore on social media.

Justice Mwihaki Njuguna has given Nyakundi the last chance to attend court on Wednesday, with Collymore’s lawyer saying he had no credible reason to skip court yet he is active on social media.

The court has, however, dismissed the lawyer’s application to the court to issue a warrant of arrest against the blogger as he issued the final adjournment before the sentence is pronounced.

Collymore is seeking to have Nyakundi committed to civil jail for disobeying a court order issued on July 18th last year barring him from publishing defamatory articles on graft claims in the media industry.

The blogger reportedly carried the offending story on August 1st last year.
