Blow to Linturi as bid to graduate from UoN is quashed

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi will not graduate this Friday after the high court declined to compel the University of Nairobi to add him on graduation list.

In his ruling, High Court Judge George Odunga said that the law maker will not suffer any prejudice if orders are not granted at this stage noting that Linturi had not convinced the court what irreparable damage he will suffer if he does not graduate.

Judge Odunga however directed parties to expedite the case.

This comes after the legislator moved to court on December 11 to challenge the University’s decision to deregister him as a law student for allegedly presenting fake papers to get admission.

Linturi dismissed the allegations as “political witch hunt” linking his political nemesis Milton Mugambi Imanyara and former Meru Governor Peter Munya to his woes.

According to the papers filed in court, Linturi said that he was admitted to the university on January 3, 2014 and was slated to graduate on December 22, 2017 with a Bachelor of Law Degree.

He says that the “political witch hunt” has now been taken over by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The senator says that he “learnt through the media” that the varsity had deregistered him on November 30 for allegedly having faked a Degree from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University India to get admitted at UON.

“EACC had conclusively investigated the allegations that Linturi self-declaration forms for 2013 elections filed with IEBC were falsified, “Linturi said through his legal team led by lawyer Tom Ojienda.

He wanted the court to quash the university’s decision to deregister him.

He also wanted the court to compel the University to reinstate his name in the graduation list.

The case will be heard on February 20th next year.
