Bobi Wine court case postponed again

A chief magistrate’s court in Uganda has pushed the hearing of a case against popular musician cum politician Bobi Wine to December 12 this year.

The presiding magistrate Grace Nahirya deferred the case after one of Bobi Wine’s co-accused David Lule failed to show up for Monday’s hearing.

”Bobi Wine is facing the charge of disobedience of statutory duty,” the New Vision newspaper said, adding that he has been accused with four others.

This case was adjourned for the second time after Bobi Wine failed to show up for the hearing the first time.

The Kyadondo East MP together with his co-accused are accused of holding a public gathering without notifying the authorities

In 2018, the artist whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi took to the streets to protest a move by government to tax the use of social media and mobile money services.

His lawyer Asuman Basalirwa speaking to Al Jazeera in 2018 said that Kyagulanyi was arrested after he reported to Uganda’s Criminal Investigations Directorate following a summons.

It was after this arrest that he was implicated with the charges that he is currently facing that carry a two year prison sentence on conviction.

The vocal leader has also been charged with several other cases including ”defaming the president”
