Bobi Wine: Ugandan police took away my passport

Bobi Wine has once again hit the headlines after revealing how police manhandled him upon his arrival back in Uganda even taking away his passport.

The revelations come even as more military vehicles were seen on Friday patrolling Kamwokya area where the politician comes from.

Bobi Wine narrated how police grabbed him immediately he landed at Entebbe Airport and took away his walking stick.

“I was forced into a waiting police vehicle. I insisted that I did not want to get into an unknown car with complete strangers and that I had my own car waiting for me at the arrivals but my plea fell on deaf ears.

“Even when I suggested that they let me get into that strange vehicle with Hon. Winnie Kiiza with whom I had travelled with from Kenya, they could hear none of that. I was searched and my passport was taken from me. I still don’t know where it is!” Bobi Wine said on Twitter.

The ordeal didn’t end there as Bobi Wine explains how he got sandwiched between two counter terrorism policemen in a vehicle that had other police officers waiting.

He was then driven off towards the UN airbase trailed by a convoy of speeding police patrol cars and military trucks.

They went to Kiira then headed to Gayaza Road before eventually taking him to his home in Magere.

The Kyadondo East MP expressed his distaste over the violation of his rights and those of his friends, family and lawyers.

According to him, his supporters have had to endure gross harassment even though they were released later in the day as there were no cases against them.

He added that some leaders were put under house arrest for no offence whatsoever: “I’m very bothered by the gruesome pictures and videos shared. Why would security agencies dehumanise Ugandans this much?

“I saw people, most of whom were going about their business along Entebbe road and Kasangati town, being beaten and manhandled by security. This impunity must stop!” he added.

“I hope Ugandans who watch these things now fully understand why we must urgently work towards redemption. I was overwhelmed by the masses of people who waited for me at home in Magere. I can’t thank you enough! I am thankful to God for getting me home safe. Viva!” he wrote on Twitter.
