Boda boda operators storm police station, accuse police of theft

Boda boda operators from Langas and Kapsaret areas in Uasin Gishu County on Tuesday stormed Langas Police Station accusing police officers of stealing their motorcycles.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the operators claimed that more than ten motorcycles have been stolen with the help of police officers from the station and issued a one-day ultimatum to Eldoret South OCPD Esther Muhoro to produce the motorcycles, saying failure to that they will take the law into their own hands.

“We have lost ten motorcycles in the hands of police officers and when we follow up the case to recover them nothing is done,” said one operator.

“We are giving the OCPD a one-day ultimatum for his officers to return the motorbikes or else we are going to storm the station,” said the operator.

The operators claimed that the police officers harass them and collude with robbers to steal their motorcycles.

While addressing the operators at the station, Esther Muhoro asked the operators to forward the names of those officers who engage in the vice, promising to take necessary action against them.

“I am not defending the officers, but I ask you to forward the names of the rogue officers and I will take disciplinary action against them,” she said.

This came moments after Muhoro challenged youths in Uasin Gishu County to seek alternative methods of earning a livelihood instead of depending on the boda boda business.

She noted that criminals now pose as customers to steal from the operators.
