Boda boda operators without IDs banned from Migori

Boda boda operators without national identification and voter cards in Migori County have been banned  from using the boda boda shades within Migori town as an incentive to participate in the upcoming 2017 General  Election and to enhance security in the industry.

Speaking in Otange boda boda stage, in Migori County, the chairman, Rinas Oyango, said that boda boda operators without the documents were blocked from using the shades within Migori town, under their new initiative dubbed “No ID/voter card no using boda boda shade”.

“Many people in the boda boda industry do not have IDs which can also help us in identifying genuine operators so that we can weed out criminals hiding in the boda boda industry,” he said.

He said that the initiative began on January 1 and added that they must have the two documents before they are allowed to operate from any boda boda stage within the town.

Onyango said that several operators who did not have an ID have already made an application adding that they are expecting more applicants before the elections.

Meanwhile, 5,500 ID cards in Migori County have not been collected from various registrar of persons offices.

Migori County Registrar of Persons, Seth Mboya, appealed to the applicants to collect the IDs so that they can apply for the voters’ card before the upcoming election.
