Boda boda rider commits suicide over Ksh.40,000 debt

A 46-year-old man killed himself at Achego village in Muhoroni, Kisumu County after his motorcycle was confiscated over a Ksh.40,000 loan default.

The deceased Phillip Opon, who is a boda boda rider, hanged himself inside his house two days after the incident happened.

His brother David Opon says the creditors ambushed him at Achego area where he was operating and took back the motorcycle.

He says his brother was shocked by the incident and decided to take his own life. The deceased is reported to have chased away his wife before locking himself in the house and taking his own life.

The body of the deceased was moved to Ahero Sub-county Hospital mortuary.
