Boda boda riders ferrying more than one passenger to be arrested

Police in Rongo, Migori County have announced a crackdown on boda boda riders ferrying two or more passengers.

The move is part of an initiative to reduce the number of people dying from motorcycle-related accidents in the region.

Rongo OCPD Kisaka Muganda said they would arrest and prosecute the riders as well as passengers who would opt to board a motorcycle which already has a passenger on board.

Addressing a group of boda boda riders and locals in Kosodo village, Mr. Muganda said many lives have been lost in the area through accidents involving motorcycles ferrying more than one passenger.

The police boss also insisted that riders must observe traffic rules, saying that those operating without licenses would be arrested and prosecuted.

The move comes amid rising cases of motorcycle accidents in Migori, with the latest incident occurring two days ago where a rider hit a stationary lorry and died on the spot in Nyatike sub-county.
