Boda Boda riders, pedestrians top road accident deaths

Majority of fatalities on Kenyan roads in the last two months have been made up of boda boda riders and pedestrians.

Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru on Tuesday revealed that 538 people have died on Kenyan roads since January 1, 2018 with motorcyclists, pedestrians and pillion passengers accounting for 373 of the total number.

Pedestrians accounted for 194 fatalities with Nairobi leading. There were 123 motorcyclists who perished together with 57 pillion passengers and 10 cyclists.

52 drivers lost their lives and 102 passengers.

The police commandant also addressed the over 10-hour gridlock on Mombasa road on Saturday night that saw many stranded overnight.

Mr. Kimaru said impatient drivers complicated the issue and has warned that any driver who creates a gridlock will be arrested, charged and will lose their licences.
