Bodies exhumed as floods wreak havoc in Turkana

Turkana County has seen one of the most horrific situations as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across the country.

A shocking scene of human bodies exhumed from their graves by flood waters was what met residents of Napetet village in Lodwar on Tuesday morning as rains pounded the area.

At least three bodies that were reportedly buried within the last month were swept out of their graves by raging waters from River Kawalesee that had burst its banks.

The bodies were taken to Lodwar Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting fresh burials.

Meanwhile, residents are calling on the county government to relocate them to safer areas as some of them have been left homeless after their houses were swept away.

On Monday, a standoff ensued after the locals rejected relief aid brought to them by the County Government. The residents lamented that its useless to give them blankets and spoons yet they have no place to live.

Meanwhile, over 100,000 people have been left homeless and transport services paralysed following the ongoing heavy rains and subsequent floods across the country.

In Nairobi, two vehicles were swept away in Ruai while the Murang’a-Kiriani Road was rendered impassable after a mudslide from uphill covered part of the connector road.

The weatherman has also warned that the heavy downpour will continue in several places including Western Kenya, Central Rift Valley and parts of Eastern Kenya.
