The bodies of some two fishermen who drowned in the waters of Lake Victoria near Usenge Beach in Bondo sub-county on Monday night have been retrieved.

The bodies of 29-year-old Joseph Ochieng and his colleague Erick Ochieng, 39 were retrieved from the lake Tuesday morning following a night-long search by fishermen.

According to Yimbo West location Chief Mr Daniel Ochieng Tiang’, the fishermen were on a fishing expedition when their boat capsized after it was hit by strong winds.

He stated that the bodies have since been taken to Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary to await a post-mortem.

Mr Tiang’ has at the same time cautioned fishermen against going into the lake without proper protective gear, noting that they must always ensure that they put on life saver jackets to save them in case of such incidents.
