Bodies of two pupils retrieved from river in Migori

Two pupils at Tagare Primary School in Kuria West Sub-county, Migori County were found dead in River Tagare on Wednesday evening.

Confirming the incident, Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge said the bodies of the two pupils, aged 8 and 6 years, were found along the river by locals.

Nthenge said they are yet to establish what transpired before the bodies were found, but added that investigations into the the deaths are ongoing.

It is suspected that the duo drowned on their way to school in the morning.

The county police boss said the deceased were spotted on Wednesday morning while they were approaching the river before their bodies were retrieved.

Investigation by local police established that the two pupils never got to school in the morning hence they are likely to have been swept by the waters.

The two bodies were moved to Pastor Machange Hospital mortuary awaiting police investigation and autopsy.

Nthenge urged parents to ensure they escort their children to schools, especially in areas where the learners are crossing a water source to avoid such deaths.
