Body of boy, 6, recovered in Lake Victoria

The body of a 6-year-old child that went missing two days ago from in Oodi village, Migori County was recovered Tuesday morning at Oodi-Nyamanga in Lake Victoria.

The child, who was a nursery school pupil at Nyamanga Primary school, was found by a group of fishermen near a bush in the water where it had been trapped.

Oodi-Nyamanga Beach Management Unit Chairman Mr Jeckonia Adhanja confirmed the incident saying the boy was last seen with his father in a boat at the Oodi-Nyamanga beach two days ago.

“We suspect that he slid while in the boat and drowned because we found boat paddles inside the water,” he said.

Mr Adhanja appealed to parents who own boats in the area to keep their children off the beach in order prevent such incidences.

“Many parents in this area tend to allow their children to play with their boats along the beach. I would like to appeal to all guardians who own these boats to keep their children off the beach to avoid such devastating incidences,” he said.

The deceased’s body has been taken to St Camilus Hospital Mortuary in Karungu.
