Body of drowned girl found in River Sagana

The body of a 13-year-old girl who went missing on Sunday afternoon after slipping into River Sagana was on Monday found wedged at the mouth of the river in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.

The standard eight pupil drowned Sunday evening after a family gathering at a local hotel.

Residents of Sagana, together with the police, recovered the body Monday afternoon after a long search mission.

Kirinyaga acting police commander, Eliud Monari, said residents and police officers had a difficult time retrieving the body in the swollen river.

At the same time, the police boss, who was speaking to Citizen Digital, said that security agents are investigating an incident where 15-year-old boy in Murinduko Ward, Mwea East committed suicide.

Shocked residents said that this was not the first incident for a primary school pupil to commit suicide in the area as a similar case was reported last month.
