Body of drowned KCSE candidate retrieved from waterfall

The body of an 18-year-old form four Jamhuri High School student who went drowned Sunday evening was on Wednesday evening retrieved from Mukangai waterfall in Murang’a following a prolonged search mission.

The student, identified as Brian Njuguna, is said to have drowned during a swimming expedition after attending his grandfather’s burial.

According to a friend by the name Peter Mwangi and who had accompanied him, Njuguna, unlike him, Njuguna was unable to swim to safety and drowned.

Efforts by local swimmers, who had rushed to the rescue after he raised an alarm, to save the form four students proved futile.

“We had to camp by the river for days hoping that the body will at least float,” said Mwangi.

One of the residents, Munyi Kariuki, told the press that divers took close to four hours to retrieve the body as the waterfall is deep and dangerous.

“It is very unfortunate that we have lost a very young man,” said Munyi.
