Body of teenage boy who drowned in river found

The body of a teenager who drowned at a local stream in Alego/Usonga Sub-County on Sunday evening was found on Monday after a two-day search.
Livan Omondi, 13, slipped and drowned while trying to retrieve a jerrican that fell into the Wuoroya river stream.
According to one of the family members Mr. Bernard Aringo, the deceased who was a Standard Six pupil at Wang’ Chieng’ Primary school had gone to fetch water together with his younger sibling at the stream when he slipped and drowned into the water.
“After the boy drowned, we immediately mounted a search for the body through the assistance of community members until later today [Tuesday] when it was found near Sango area which is several kilometers away from where he drowned,” said Mr Aringo.
Mr Aringo pleaded with the Siaya County government to find a way of containing the perennial water shortage in the region by covering shallow wells and boreholes to avert such untimely deaths.
The boy’s body has since been taken to Ukwala Sub-County Hospital awaiting a postmortem.
