Body retrieved hours after student drowned in Konyona Dam

The body of a Form Four student from Osogo Secondary School in Uriri has been retrieved from Konyona dam.

West Kanyamkago location Chief John Ojwang identified the student as Denis Odhiambo.

He said the body was retrieved on Friday morning by divers who spent the whole night searching for the body.

He said the body has been moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary for preservation pending police investigations.

According to Mr. Ojwang the student aged 19 years was in company of other students who had gone to fetch water from the dam.

Eye witnesses indicated that the boy had opted to take a shower in the dam when he drowned.

A similar incident was reported at Sagero Secondary School in Suna West Sub County more than one year ago when one of the students who had gone to fetch water from Nyamome dam.

A spot check by Radio Ramogi in Migori County has established that many secondary schools in Migori County are facing water shortage forcing the learners to walk long distances to fetch water from dams and streams.

Major towns like Migori and Awendo continue to face water crisis.

Governor Okoth Obado in his address to Awendo locals a week ago said the county government is working on modalities to restore water supply.
