Boinnet, Kinoti appeal High Court decision on Miguna deportation

The Police on Thursday filed an appeal against a ruling by the Nairobi High Court declaring the revocation of National Resistance Movement’s Miguna Miguna’s citizenship as illegal.

Through lawyer Kioko Kilukumi, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Director General of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti filed the application at the Court of Appeal.

In the case, Miguna Miguna and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have been listed as respondents.

Earlier, High Court Judge Luka Kimaru declared the revocation of Miguna’s citizenship “illegal, null and void.”

However in a quick rejoinder, the government maintained that the firebrand opposition politician remains deported.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Principal Secretary Ministry of Interior Karanja Kibicho faulted the ruling saying that the deportation was conducted within the confines of the law.

He stated that the government would appeal the High Court decision.
