Boinnet says police have done a lot to secure country

The Inspector General of National Police Service, Joseph Boinnet, has pledged quick response in the unlikely event that violence erupts after the August 8, 2017 General Election.

Speaking during the Jeff Koinange Live show Wednesday, July 19 , Boinnet said that the government is doing all it can to protect the citizenry but noted that there will always be minor incidents.

“Let us not delude ourselves there is something called absolute security, it does not exist but we have done a lot of work with the Kenyan people and Security agencies,” said Boinnet.

He added that the police arsenal, which includes heavily armored vehicles and ‘intimidating’ tactical gear, is meant to deter violence and avert anarchy but not cause mayhem in the state.

He noted that Kenya has a serious threat of terrorism, but commended security officers for being able to foil attacks.

This is in spite of recent Al Shaabab attacks in the country that has claimed the lives of over 40 people in two months.

Further, he denied National Super Alliance (NASA) allegations of helping Jubilee to rig polls, vindicating that National Police Service has equally supported NASA in their campaigns by providing immeasurable security.

NASA’s accusation was prompted by an exercise carried out in Embakasi Barracks. However, Boinnet exonerated his department from any political affiliation accounting that the training was in force.

“The exercise was to bring together Kenya police forces and test their preparedness in securing the country in various levels during elections and also a meeting of East Africa forces to test our preparedness in curbing terrorism in the region,” he said.

The IG assured Kenyans that security is in check and they should not leave the country.
