Bomet Governor orders deputy to hand over county property

Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto, has instructed his deputy, Stephen Mutai, to immediately surrender all the government properties in his possession and concentrate on his gubernatorial campaigns.

Speaking during a swearing in ceremony of the new county officials, Governor Ruto said his deputy has completely absconded his duties for one and a half years and therefore he should just surrender the office.

“I don’t know where he is and I think I will release him to go for his campaigns immediately and he should hand over government property,” said Ruto.

He said Mr Mutai is free to contest but he must leave office to someone else to handle his duties.

Mr Mutai is set to battle it out for a Jubilee party ticket with the National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Joyce Laboso.

At the same time, he warned county officials who have started campaigns for political seats that they should notify the appointing authority for more directions lest they might face heavy penalty.

“Those members of staff who have opted to go and campaign without notifying us are going to face disciplinary action,” said Ruto.

He further said that those who had written letters notifying the appointing authority they should wait for further directions on the same.
