Bomet to continue measles vaccination after child death

Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso has ordered for the continuation of vaccination of babies in the county.

This, even after the recent death of a nine-month old baby who died after receiving a measles vaccine in Mogogosiek Health Centre, Konoin sub-county.

Governor Laboso was speaking at Tenwek Mission Hospital during a visit to babies under medication in the institution.

She said that the incident of the nine-month old baby was regrettable and dismissed allegations that the vaccine used had expired.

“We must continue to immunise our children. This incident is being investigated, nobody is trying to hide anything. The pathologists have also done their work, so we’re going to give the public the right information,” said the governor.

Dr. Laboso further added that individuals tasked with carrying out the process are well-trained professionals and facilities at the hospitals are fully up to date with the required health standards.

“Let us continue vaccinating our children, there is more damage in doing it than not. The people that are administering the vaccines are very well-trained, and the gentleman has been vaccinating for over 20 years, and so it’s not a question of inexperience. The storage facilities that are in our hospitals are also of the standards required by WHO,” she added.
