Bonchari Candidates Set To Submit Papers To IEBC

The five candidates set to battle it out are Zebedeo Opore of Ford People, immediate former MP John Oyioka of ODM, David Ogega of Democratic Party, Charles Mogaka of the National Labour Party and Professor Okioga Charles who has not yet named his party of choice.

Once cleared, the candidates will be set for official campaigns, set to kick off on Friday 23rd.

The by election that was to take place on the 3rd of June was postponed by IEBC due to the late issuance of a certificate nullifying the election by the Court of Appeal.

“The Court of Appeal declared the seat vacant on 7th March but issued the certificate on 14th April, 2014. The countdown begins from the date the certificate is issued,” IEBC said in a statement.

During a security meeting with the aspirants, Bonchari Constituency Returning Officer Peter Resa urged that candidates conduct peaceful campaigns.

He further cautioned the aspirants against buying ID cards saying it was a criminal offence and that the commission would take stern action against those found committing these malpractices.

“Supporters found committing malpractices would lead to their aspirant’s disqualification,” Resa said.
