Bondo man kills self after eloping with school girl

A 19-year-old man in Bondo Sub-county, Siaya Counnty has committed suicide over fear of being being arrested.

Richard Ochieng’ Odhiambo was found hanging on a tree in Utonga village on Sunday, with villagers saying that he had recently eloped with a primary school girl to a nearby village before the girl was traced by authorities.

Confirming the incident, Maranda Divisional AP Commandant Boaz Odero said that the bodaboda operator who lived with his mother went missing after he was traced with the minor, only to be found dead a day later.

“The suspect may have committed suicide for fear he would be arrested in connection with that incident,” said Odera.

The deceased’s body was found hanging in a bush near the South Sakwa Water Project Intake, adjacent to Utonga beach.

The body has since been removed to Bondo Sub-county Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem as investigations into the matter begin.
