Bondo woman arrested for burning son over Sh100

A 28-year-old woman in Bondo sub-County, Kisumu has been arrested after she allegedly burnt her 8-year-old son for losing Ksh100.

Judith Anyango was arrested by members of the public who were irritated by her move to burn the hands of her son Maricus Otieno over loss of the cash.

Juma Abuko, chairman of Bondo sub-county Community Policing Committee, siad the woman sent the boy on an errand to the nearby shop but lost the money.

In an interview with the Citizen Digital, Juma said that the boy went back and informed her mother that he had lost the money, angering her. She is said to have tied the little boy’s hands, poured paraffin and then set them on fire.

The boy’s painful cry attracted the neighbours who came to his rescue.

Eye witnesses say that the police intervened to rescue the woman from the irate residents and took her to the nearby village elder’s home before she was later transferred to Bondo Police Station where she has been locked up.

Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie confirmed the arrest of the woman, saying a probe is underway before she can be arraigned in court on Monday next week.
