Former Senator Boni Khalwale has been freed on Ksh. 200,000 police bond after he recorded a statement over relief-food distribution amid COVID-19 measures.

He is expected to appear in court on Friday to answer to the charges.

Earlier on Thursday, a Kakamega Court had issued a warrant of arrest for Dr. Khalwale.

He however presented himself at the offices of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kakamega South.

The former Senator was in the company of his lawyer Danstan Omari.

He recorded a statement and was released a few minutes later.
