Botwana’s Ruling Party Wins Elections

The National Electoral Commission said that BDP secured at least 33 of the 57 parliamentary seats being contested.

The Opposition group Umbrella for Democratic Change managed to secure 14 seats agaiinst the required 29 seats.

The BDP party led by President Ian Khama has been in power since Botswana gained independence in 1966.

However, it has been battling to gain support in urban areas where opposition parties have made recent inroads.

Botswana is the world's largest diamond producer and is seen as one of Africa's most stable and democratic countries.
