Boy, 12, allegedly commits suicide in Nyeri

A 12-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide at his home in Mutui village in Mathira constituency, Nyeri county on Tuesday night.

Emilio Warungu was reportedly having trouble in school and wanted to drop out.

His father Samuel Nguthiru said he had been called several times to Karidundu Primary School where the boy was a Class Six pupil.

He added that his son had not slept home for the past week and the mother Nancy Murugi been looking for the boy from Tuesday.

It is only on Wednesday morning as she was coming from fetching water that she apparently saw the boy in a shed at his grandfather’s house next door.

She screamed alarming the neighbours who rushed to the home to find out what was happening.

According to Senior Chief Joseph Njoroge, a Nyumba Kumi leader reported hearing screams from the homestead.

He told the chief that he learned of the incident when he arrived at the scene.

According to him, another pupil committed suicide in the area last year.

The boy’s body has been taken to Karatina Level 4 mortuary.
