Boy, 12, dies in tragic fire as two siblings escape narrowly

A 12-year-old boy has been burnt to death while his two siblings escaped death narrowly after a fierce fire gutted down their house at Kathelwa Village in Igembe  Town, Meru County.

According to the Igembe Central Police OCS Protus Wanyama, the fire, whose cause has not yet been established, started at around 4am on Sunday when the family was asleep.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the deceased’s father said he heard a commotion in the cow shed and went outside to check what was wrong, but on returning he found the house on fire.

“I heard a strange sound coming from the cow shed but when I went to check I found nothing, going back to the house I found it on fire,” said the father.

The mother was only able to save two children; she was however unable to save her lastborn.

Meanwhile, the neighbors helped to put out the fire but unfortunately did not manage to salvage any property from the inferno, which reduced the house to ashes.

Police have launched investigations into the incident to establish the cause of the fire.

This comes barely a fortnight after three children from the same family and their uncle perished at Nchaure Village in Imenti North Sub County, Meru County.

The children had gone to visit their grandparents from Nairobi, where their parents were at the time of the incident.
