Court detains boy, 13, and his 15-year-old pregnant girlfriend for two weeks

A 13-year-old boy boy and his 15-year-old expectant girlfriend who were arrested on Sunday, will now spend two weeks at a children’s remand home in Nyamira pending a court hearing, a Migori court ruled on Tuesday.

The two were arrested and detained at Migori Police Station for two days after the mother of the girl demanded the boy’s arrest for impregnating her child.

According to Suna East sub-county Police Commander Mark Wanjala, the minors will be detained at Manga Children’s Remand Home until April 9, 2019 when they will be brought back before the Migori court for hearing.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Migori County Children Service Coordinating Officer John Odinya confirmed that the duo had been moved to the remand home adding that they need protection and care.

The boy is said to be a student in one of the secondary schools at Kakrao area in Suna East sub-county.
