Briton in over Ksh500m cocaine case remanded

The High Court on Tuesday remanded Briton Alexander Jack Wolf Marrian until Wednesday following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in a case where Wolf is accused of being behind a haul of cocaine valued at Ksh 598 million.

High Court Judge Luka Kimaru remanded the Briton until Wednesday when the parties will argue out their cases.

Wolf’s lawyer, Andrew Wandabwa, told the court that they had not filed their response to the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) application that is challenging the bond terms given by a Magistrate Court.

According to Wandabwa, the application by DPP was premature.

Justice Kimaru directed that Wolf and his co-accused, Roy Mwanthi, be produced in court Wednesday during the hearing of the application.

Mwanthi, a Kenyan, was granted a Ksh 60 million bond.

The DPP is opposing the decision of the Kibera Magistrate Court to release the two on bond arguing that the case facing them is serious and attracts stiff penalties, making them pose flight risk.

The magistrate had on Monday released Wolf on a Ksh 70 million bond and Mwanthi on Ksh 60 million bond, further ordering them to present two Kenyan sureties each of a similar amount and also deposit their passports with the court.

They were also ordered to report to the police once every week pending the hearing of their case.
