Briton who died in jail to get justice

The family of a British Aristocrat-Alexander Monson-who died mysteriously in the hands of the police at Diani police station, Kwale County, has claimed that there is a well-orchestrated plot to cover up the alleged murder of their son by security officers.

The family made the allegations during a public inquiry that is looking at Monson’s death after it emerged in court that statements of three crucial witnesses had been missing.

Through their lawyers A.B Olaba and Abubakar Yusuf, they alleged that the prosecution has never mentioned the existence of any such statements and how they went missing.

In his testimony before Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Odenyo, the arresting officer Naftali Chege said he was on duty that night and on arrival at Tanduri bar in Kwale County, the security personnel at the joint said Monson was smoking bhang.

Mr. Chege said they recovered an envelop with a bottle with brown liquid, some tablets and rolling papers leading to the arrest of Monson and another of his white colleague.

Mr. Monson died the following day under mysterious circumstances.

The cross examination continues Thursday.
