Bruno Shioso named new police spokesperson taking over from Charles Owino

Bruno Isohi Shioso has been appointed as the new spokesperson of the National Police Service (NPS).

Shioso, a seasoned detective and former deputy head of Banking Fraud Investigations Unit, will take over from Charles Owino who was in May this year transferred to the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP) and named the deputy director.

“Bruno Shioso is the new Police Spokesman,” said Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai on Tuesday.

Prior to his deployment as the police spokesman, Shioso served at the UN headquarters, New York. He also served as the deputy director of BFIU.

He also served as a longtime personal assistant to former Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.

Shioso was among five officers appointed to investigate the Garissa University College terror attack in 2015 and conduct general response to it.

He becomes the third spokesperson/director of communication in National Police Service under the new dispensation, which started in 2012, placing the Kenya Police and Administration Police Service under one command of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Past spokespersons for Kenya Police Service (KPS) include Jasper Ombati (2004-2009), Erick Kiraithe (2009-2013), Owino (2013), Gatiri Mboroki (2014-2015) Owino- (2015-2021). Owino served for KPS before being moved to NPS in the same capacity.
