Budding lawyer gunning for Kirinyaga County Speaker post
The race for the County Assembly Speaker’s position in Kirinyaga County has solidified with over six candidates contending for the top County job, including High Court advocate, Geoffrey Muchoki.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mr Muchoki said he has the support of Mwea East Constituency, Member of Parliament, Kabinga Wachira, and a passable number of Members of County Assembly who prompted him to vie for the seat.
Customarily, the Constitution provides that the Speaker of the County Assembly should be elected by MCA’s in the first sitting after being sworn in.
Also lobbying for the Speaker’s position is the former MP of Mwea East, Mr. Kibugi and the former Speaker of Kirinyaga County, Anne Wangeci, who had forfeited her seat to vie for Women Representative but placed a bid for re-election after getting trounced by Purity Wangui Ngirici in a hotly contested race.
Muchoki, who is vying for the second most important County job after the Governor, is the proprietor of Mwea Safi Initiative and is a philanthropist who has sponsored six students for their secondary school education.
“I am legislative savvy and I believe that with my vast knowledge in policy framework and neutrality in politics, I am the best bet for the job,” he said.
