Buhari, Uhuru tighten trade ties

Visiting Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and his host President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday held bilateral talks at State House, Nairobi where they agreed to tighten business ties between the two countries by reducing huddles for bilateral trade.

Speaking at State House after the talks, the two Heads of State also promised to fully implement the signed trade agreements between Nigeria and Kenya to ease movement of goods and persons between the two countries.

Buhari who is making his maiden trip to Kenya has pledged to help Kenya benefit economically from the recent discovery of oil through sharing of skill.

The Nigerian President later proceeded to the United Nations Environment Programme headquarters in Gigigiri where he planted a tree to commemorate his visit.

The two heads of State are now expected to jointly preside over a Kenya-Nigeria Business Forum at Intercontinental hotel.

Wednesday, President Buhari joined Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud (Somalia) at the Moi Barracks, Eldoret during a special inter-denominational memorial service in honor of Kenya Defence Forces soldiers killed in El Adde.

After the conclusion of his three-day state visit on Friday, Buhari will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the 26th Summit of African Union Heads of State and Government.

President Buhari said Somalia would forever remain indebted to what Kenyans have offered on behalf of the citizens of Somalia, describing the terrorists as “barbaric devils”.
