Bungoma County MCA in Court

The member of the Bungoma County assembly representing Bokoli Ward Jack Kawa was arraigned at the Webuye Law Court before the Senior Magistrate William Chepseba over incitement that led to the escape of 12 prisoners. The MCA was accompanied by his lawyer John Makali, who is also the speaker of the Bungoma County Assembly. Kawa was arrested by police in Bungoma, after he allegedly incited members of the public to kill police officers and burn a government motor vehicle in Kawa village. He was also accused of obstructing 5 police officers as they were trying to arrest changaa drinkers. The Bokoli MCA was also accused of helping 12 prisoners to escape from police custody. He faced a final charge of stealing 4 pairs of handcuffs all valued at 6,000 shillings. He was released on a 20,000 shillings cash bail or bond of 200,000 shillings. The case will be mentioned on 24th February and the hearing is set for the 29th of May 2015.
