Bungoma moneyman tells Kalonzo, Wetangula to back Railas candidature

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co-principals, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper Party, have been urged to support Raila Odinga in his 2017 presidential bid.

Sirisia Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentary hopeful, Moses Nandalwe, said that Odinga has a broad support base in different regions in the country thus putting him in pole position to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 polls.

“It is paramount for Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and other opposition leaders including Musalia Mudavadi to rally behind Raila to ensure CORD wins in the next presidential elections,” he said.

“The ODM and CORD leader has amassed huge support from different parts of Kenya and stands a better chance of defeating Uhuru in 2017.”

Nandalwe further lauded the unity that CORD principals have had since the last General Election.

“I thank my friend Kalonzo Musyoka and Wetangula for standing firm in CORD since the 2013 elections. I’m optimistic that Raila is going to pull a Trump surprise,” he added.

His utterances come as debate over who will be CORD’s flag bearer continue with all the three coalition principals drumming support for their candidature.

Wetangula and Kalonzo have called on Odinga to return the favour they accorded him in 2013 and support one of them in the next polls.

In a past rally in Mombasa, Kalonzo said that he had suffered a lot for the country and deserved a shot at the presidency.

ODM leaders, including Director of Campaigns, Junet Mohamed, have, however, called on the coalition partners to support Odinga’s bid with the hope that he would pave way for them in future elections.

Speaking in Machakos in August, Junet called on the Kamba community to back Odinga saying the CORD leader had fought relentlessly for democracy.

“As ODM, we are very happy with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his leadership style. However, our request is that we give Raila one chance after which we will support Kalonzo,” he said.

Odinga is seeking a fourth shot at the presidency having missed out, allegedly in a disputed manner, in 1997, 2007 and 2013.

Nandwale, a former Kenyatta University student leader, will face off with current MP John Waluke for the Sirisia parliamentary seat.

Waluke, who recently defected to Jubilee, also resigned as ODM Bungoma Branch chair.
