Bungoma police gun down most wanted robber

Police in Bungoma on Wednesday night gunned down a suspected robber and recovered an AK47 rifle with 23 rounds of ammunition.

Bungoma South OCPD, David Kirui, said that the suspect has been terrorizing residents of Bungoma town and the adjacent markets.

The OCPD said that the officers, who were on patrol in Musikoma area in the outskirts of Bungoma town, bumped into three people who looked suspicious at around 8:00 pm. Upon seeing the officers, the three boarded a motorcycle and started fleeing.

“The officers then pursued them and when they caught up with them along the Nabongo Teachers Training College Road, the suspects opened fire at the officers who then returned fired gunning down one of the suspects while two others fled,” said Kirui.

Kirui said that the suspect gunned down, identified as Naftali Mong’eri, was a resident of Mujini Estate within Bungoma Town.

He said the suspect, with his accomplices, have been targeting major hotels, bars and boutiques where they hijack the owners and steal from them.

Kirui asked the suspects who fled to surrender before they are caught by the law enforcers.

The body of the deceased is being preserved at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
