Bungoma: Teacher in court for allegedly beating child to death over assignment

A high school teacher was on Tuesday arraigned in a Bungoma court for allegedly beating a student to death for failing to finish a class assignment.

The Bishop Adudo Boys School teacher — Crispinus Wabwile — was presented before Bungoma Senior Magistrate C. A Mutai where the prosecution sought more time to detain him pending conclusion of investigations.

The court was told that Mr. Wabwile beat up the 16-year-old Form Two student on February 5, 2019 causing him serious head injuries.

After the thorough beating, the boy was taken ill in school, prompting the principal to send the student home to seek medical attention.

His parents took him to the Bungoma West Hospital in critical condition and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for more than two weeks.

The boy passed away while undergoing treatment last Sunday, March 3, 2019.

The prosecution was seeking 14 days but the court granted seven days to complete investigations.

The accused was remanded at Bungoma Police Station and is due in court on March 13, 2019 for the mention of the case.
