Family buries wrong body in identification mix-up

The burial of a man in Ndori Village of Central Asembo location in Rarieda sub-county was on Sunday interrupted when the family of the deceased realized that they had the wrong body.

According to the widow, Mama Mary Yongo Oluoch, the family had to suspend the burial programme after discovering that the body which had been picked from the mortuary did not belong to her late husband John Yongo Oluoch.

She told Radio Ramogi that they noticed that the body did not belong to that of her husband after realizing that it had long hair on the head yet her husband had bald head, and that he also has some scars on the hand and on the leg but all those were missing.

Mama Yongo revealed that this prompted them to return the body to the mortuary, only to discover that there was a mix-up during identification, and that the person whose boody they took was John Omole Yongo and not her husband John Yongo Oluoch.

According to the family, the other family had also taken Oluoch’s body and proceeded to bury it in the nearby Rambugu Village, wich is also in the Central Asembo location.

Joseph Odhiambo, who is a step son to Omole Yongo, stated that they only discovered that they had buried a wrong body when Olouch’s family came to their home to claim the body that had already been buried.

He said that this forced them to go back to the mortuary where they confirmed that indeed they had picked the wrong body.

They two families have agreed to have the body exhumed and returned to the family of the deceased pending a court order.
