Burial preparations for Diani victims underway

Burial preparations for the seven St. Martins Primary School pupils who drowned in a public beach in Diani, Kwale County are ongoing.

The bodies are still being preserved at the Kenyatta University mortuary after they were airlifted from Mombasa Friday morning.

14 year-old Derrick Gatimu, who is one of those who perished in the incident, is set to be buried on Friday next week at Nyagithici village in Gicugu according to his family.

Muranga County government has promised to cater for all the burial expenses.

The seven died after drowning while swimming at a public beach in Diani three days ago.

They were among 56 pupils who were on an academic tour of the coast region.

The drowning incident has raised questions about the safety of children when they attend school trips.

Speaking on Satuday in Muranga, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged those who are given the responsibility of being in charge of children to take their jobs seriously and ensure they do not place them in danger.
