Buru Buru murder case: Man jailed for 20yrs over wifes death

The Nairobi High Court has sentenced Erastus Ngura Odhiambo alias Ediot to 20 years imprisonment after he was convicted of murdering his second wife in the 2014.

High Court Judge Stella Mutuku while delivering the Judgement said she considered the fact that the father of four is remorseful.

“Having considered all the factors in the matter, justice is to be served the convict is to serve 20 years in jail,” Judge Mutuku ruled.

Further, Mutuku said that she was alive to the circumstances around the murder, and the Ngura could have acted differently instead of killing the deceased if at all he was provoked.

The judge also considered the victim’s family impact statement in which the court was requested to grant the accused maximum penalty because the accused murdered their loved one.

The brother said they were living a normal life that changed after their sister’s life was cut short by someone she loved the most.

Ediot killed Linda Wanjiku Irungu, a 28-year-old lawyer, in December 2014. The murder was committed at Waihura Court in Buru Buru Phase 5 estate, Nairobi.

The two had known each other for three years and had one child.

The court had heard that the accused had gone looking for Wanjiku on the night she was killed and found her inside her car preparing to drive out of Waihura Court, Buru Buru when he blocked her from leaving.

Ediot is said to have blocked the car, moved to the driver’s side and pulled Wanjiku out, leaving the vehicle to roll on towards the gate.

A quarrel ensued between the two during which Ediot is reported to have assaulted Wanjiku before shooting her.

The court however in its earlier judgment dismissed the testimony that the convict blocked relatives of the deceased from taking her to hospital after the shooting.
