Busia: AP officer whose husband died 19 days after wedding wants speedy probe

A newly-wed Administration Police officer in Busia wants speedy investigations following the death of her husband of 19 days.

Doris Wako, 38, said her husband collapsed moments after receiving a cow that had been promised to them on their wedding day.

The couple had exchanged vows at Our Lady of Grace and Compassion Primary School in Mundika, Matayos Constituency on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

They had dated since high school and had five children.

Doris told Citizen TV that she accompanied Bernard to his uncle’s home in Nyakhobi, Funyula on Wednesday to collect a wedding gift.

The uncle had pledged on their wedding day that he would give them a cow.

All was well until Bernard was given the gift. He collapsed and was rushed to Busia County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

When Citizen TV visited the couple’s home in Khung’ungu, burial preparations were already underway even as family members called for speedy investigations.
