Busia council of imams advocates for peace

The Council of Imams in Busia County has called upon political leaders and those seeking elective seats in the coming August Polls to advocate for peace among their supporters.

Speaking in Busia town on Saturday, the Chairman of the Council, Sheikh Ramadhan Musa, said political leaders should guide their supporters to campaign peacefully instead of giving them money and buying them alcohol to disrupt rivals’ campaign rallies which can lead to death.

“Everyone is supposed to take responsibility to ensure that we co-exist peacefully in the society. The youth should not accept to be used by rogue politicians,” said the chairman.

Sheikh Ramadhan also advised all security agencies in the county to be on high alert this electioneering period to maintain law and order.

“Security agencies should be on high alert. Church leaders should also preach peace among their congregation; they should not be seen as supporting a particular candidate,” he added.
