Busia County officials, in the dock with Governor, fight suspension

Three Busia County government officials charged alongside their Governor Sospeter Ojaamong now want the court to stop their suspension from work.

The three Alan Ekweny Omachari, Samuel Ombui and MBernard Yaite
have filed the case before the Employment and Labour Relations court.

They claim that the Busia County Service Board was about to suspend them as per section 62 Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act (ACECA).

The Act provides for the suspension of any officer facing criminal charge, until the case is determined.

It is their argument that the Governor and petitioners are employees of the people of Busia County and should therefore be treated equally without discrimination under the Act.

Similarly they argue that the Act is discriminative because Governor Ojaamong’ who is facing similar charges, still remains in office.

The case will be heard this Friday before justice Byram Ongaya.
