Busia Doctors, Nurses Strike Continues
The staff at the provincial health center is on protest over delays in payment of their salaries.
The strike has left hundreds of patients unattended with the staff saying the strike will continue until their issues are addressed.
The health workers also said they have been forced to work under deplorable conditions without basic medical equipment, exposing them to the risk of infection.
“ You find three patients sharing a bed, with some sleeping on the floor. We are forced to give them carton boxes to sleep on,” said a nurse.
Busia county governor Sospeter Ojaamong however denied that the county government has failed to pay the health workers.
Ojaamong said the county government has already transferred the pay funds to local banks and attributed any delays to hitches within specific banks.
Medical workers in Kisumu and Mombasa counties were also on strike over similar matters.
